Diseased Trees need Arborists

There are many diseases we need to watch. A few of the common Texas tree diseases are listed below. At Doleva we are trained to know exactly what is wrong with your tree.

Your tree is showing signs of a disease. Central Texas is in an epidemic of Oak Wilt.

Oak Wilt:

If you have an oak tree, we need to screen immediately for oak wilt disease, caused by a fungus (Ceratocystis fagacearum). This fungus attacks the vascular system, shutting off needed water and nutrients.

  • Oak Wilt symptoms vary depending on the variety of Oak tree infected. If you suspect Oak Wilt, call your Arborist immediately.

Other Oak Tree problems:

Many factors can contribute to Oak tree decline besides Oak Wilt:

  • Drought: Our Texas summers are often hot and dry. If trees do not get enough water, they can die.
  • Age: Older trees are more susceptible to drought and disease
  • Insect damage: Believed to be a major carrier of Oak Wilt
  • Presence of diseases other than Oak Wilt

Anthracnose:

A fungal disease that primarily affects the white oak group, especially post oak trees. It attacks the leaves, leaf buds, and the new shoots. Although this disease is not always fatal it does leave some lasting affects with the tree for the duration of the trees life.

  • Weakened tree
  • Extreme defoliation
  • Stunted growth

It can spread extremely fast and show itself with irregular, brown, rotten spots, appearing in early summer. The disease worsens and forms pustules on the veins and midribs of the diseased leaves. If not treated the disease only hibernates in the winter and then spreads further in the spring with the new growth.

Ball Moss

This disease is an epiphyte it grows on the bark of Texas shade trees. The post oak is one of its favorite places to grow. Ball Moss spreads rapidly and kills by enveloping and smothering the limbs of trees.

  • Grayish-Green Clusters
  • Numerous plants
  • Kills new buds and branches
