How can I tell if my trees have oak wilt?

There a many obvious signs of a tree carrying the oak wilt disease. Sometime the signs have not begin to show and only a tree service professional can truly assess the situation. If your oak tree is showing any of these signs then it is best to have an Arborist do an inspection of the tree and verify whether or not it has the disease.

Yes,

Anthracnose:

A fungal disease that primarily affects the white oak group, especially post oak trees. It attacks the leaves, leaf buds, and the new shoots. Although this disease is not always fatal it does leave some lasting affects with the tree for the duration of the trees life.

  • Weakened tree
  • Extreme defoliation
  • Stunted growth

It can spread extremely fast and show itself with irregular, brown, rotten spots, appearing in early summer. The disease worsens and forms pustules on the veins and midribs of the diseased leaves. If not treated the disease only hibernates in the winter and then spreads further in the spring with the new growth.

Ball Moss

This disease is an epiphyte it grows on the bark of Texas shade trees. The post oak is one of its favorite places to grow. Ball Moss spreads rapidly and kills by enveloping and smothering the limbs of trees.

  • Kills new buds and branches
